Modular Use
A Kentex decoiler is designed to work automatically with a Kentex Multi-Blank™ machine,
or as a free-standing decoiler for use with other vendor’s equipment. We can provide:
- Decoiler
- Coil car
Hydraulic Power
All machinery power, both rotational and mandrel force, is provided by hydraulic power.
The hydraulic power unit is designed to eliminate a heat exchanger. Hydraulic valves
include DIN electrical connectors with indicator lights for easy maintenance. Whenever
possible, hydraulic fittings are ‘O’ ring or JIC to reduce leakage.
Capacity
The standard decoiler capacity is 12,500#, with 49" wide radius-formed shoes for coil
contact. Typical mandrel expansion range is 18" - 22". Larger-weight capacity, different
mandrel expansion ranges and longer radius-formed shoes are available as options.
Automatic Operation
The decoiler rotation is automatically loop-arm controlled. The loop arm controls variable-speed operation, providing smooth stops and starts. Variable speed reduces decoiler
drive system shock, extending the component's life. Loop-arm control can be disabled for
safety during coil handling.
Safety
The decoiler rotary drive system and mandrel expansion power is fully guarded. The
pendant control allows the disabling of automatic rotation during coil loading.
Controls
When used with equipment provided by a company other than Kentex, the decoiler
includes a pendant control, similar to an overhead crane pendant. The pendant contains
ON, EMERGENCY STOP, EXPAND, CONTRACT, FORWARD and REVERSE switch
selections. Expand and contract are combined on one switch and forward and reverse are
combined on another switch.
Operating Speed
The operating speed can automatically vary from 0 to 150 FPM.
Electrical Requirements
The decoiler requires three-phase electrical supply, typically in 230 or 460 volts. Typical
electrical supply requirements are 15 amperes of 460/3/60. Other voltages and hertz
are available as options.
Construction
The decoiler is constructed of steel plate and heavy structural sections. All seams are
fully welded inside and out. Structural rib supports are included as needed. The
mandrel expands and contracts using a re-greasable, steel wedge system.
Decoiler Finish
After fabrication completion, prior to mechanical assembly, the decoiler framework is
machine-cleaned and powder-coated. Typically, we powder coat in two contrasting
colors to improve appearance.
Coil Car Option
A decoiler with matched weight capacity can be added. The coil car includes a ‘v’
shaped coil saddle to retard coil movement during operation. The coil car includes
sufficient vertical lift to touch the lower side of the mandrel when fully extended. The coil
car moves along steel tracks, powered hydraulically. Special hydraulic-locking valves
prevent coil drop in the event of a catastrophic hydraulic pressure loss. The coil car
can be installed to decoil either direction.
Decoiler Installation
The decoiler can be installed by placing it on a typical industrial concrete foundation and
drilling holes for concrete expansion bolts. No special foundation is required for a
12,500# decoiler.
