Multi-Blank™ Slitter

Modular Nature
A Kentex Multi-Blank™ machine is modular in nature. We can provide:

  1. Decoiler
  2. Coil car - for decoiler or recoiler
  3. Main unit - includes coil set removal, slitting and cut-to-length
  4. Materials receiving cart - accepts flat sheets or slit, cut-to-length trim blanks
  5. Recoiler - includes overarm separator, slit strip support and strip pinch mandrel

Hydraulic Power
All machinery shear, clamping and rotation power is hydraulic. The hydraulic unit is designed to eliminate a heat exchanger. Hydraulic valves include DIN electrical connectors with indicator lights for easy maintenance. Whenever possible, hydraulic fittings are ‘O’ ring or JIC to reduce leakage.

Decoiler
Standard decoiler capacity is 12,500 #, with 49" wide radius formed shoes for coil contact. The decoiler is constructed of fully welded, heavy steel sections. The typical mandrel expansion range is 18"-22". Larger weight capacity and different mandrel expansion ranges are available upon request. Decoiler rotation is loop arm controlled. The loop arm controls variable speed operation, providing smooth stops and starts.
Variable speed reduces decoiler drive system shock, extending the component's life. Loop arm control can be disabled for safety during coil handling.

Main Unit
The Multi-Blank™ main unit includes cascade entry rolls, entry strip guidance and exit strip guidance, coil set removal, cut-to-length and slitting. The main unit slits after cut-to-length. Slitting at the exit end of the main unit provides multiple benefits:

1. Slit width changes lose no material
2. Slit width adjustments are easy and fast
3. Slitter shafts and knives are easy to inspect and access for removal and sharpening
4. All material movement is in one direction during slitting, extending machine life

Main Unit Control
The main unit includes an AMS MP301 controller, a single length and single batch controller suited for slitting trim stock and cutting flat sheets to length. Controllers with additional features are available as an option.

Main Unit Multi-speed Operation
The main unit operates at two speeds. Low speed is used during material loading for safety. High speed operation automatically begins when the operator programs a part length and quantity. Prior to cut-off, the machine slows to low speed, stops to cut and resumes high speed operation. Typical operation speeds are 150-160 FPM for high speed and 35-40 FPM for low speed. Typical cut length accuracy is + 1/16”. A
specially coated drive roll prevents material finish scuffing.

Slitter Knife Construction
Slitter knives are manufactured of high carbon, high chrome (D2) material, ground and sharpened. The knives locate using double set screw locking. The set screws actuate a gib key, preventing mandrel marking. Slitter mandrels are 4" diameter, hardened and ground. The upper mandrel can be raised to eliminate slitting, for cutting flat sheets.

Slitter Operation
The upper slitter mandrel is located by a lever and lock, allowing the user to accurately locate the slitter knife overlap. The machine side frame includes a removable “window” at the slitter mandrel position, allowing easier and faster slit knife removal for sharpening.

Slitting Capacity
Slit and cut-to-length maximum capacity is 18 gauge, 55K steel. A maximum of 3 slits in 18 gauge steel is allowed. More cuts can be accomplished in thinner material.

Electrical Supply
The equipment requires three-phase electrical supply, 230/3/60 or 460/3/60. Other electrical voltages and Hz capabilities are available.

Cut Materials Receiving
A 5,000 pound capacity receiving cart is included for cut-off flat sheets and slit strips. The cart includes swivel, locking roller bearing casters and non-marking surface. A standard cart is 4' wide and 20' long, although shorter or longer carts can be provided.

Coil Car Option
A coil car can be included with decoiler and recoiler. The coil car is constructed of heavy steel structural sections. Coil lift and horizontal movement is hydraulic and includes a lock to prevent a sudden weight drop in the event of a pressure loss.

Recoiler Option
A recoiler can be provided to rewind slit strip. The recoiler includes a slit strip support conveyor and “loop” system. Slit strip recoil tensioning and slit strip guidance is provided by an overarm separator.

Foundation Requirements
No special foundation is required - a typical industrial concrete floor is sufficient.

Machine Finish
After fabrication, components are powder-coated. A typical finish includes two contrasting colors, such as royal blue and gloss black. A “typical” color selection range is offered.
